With the top four in a battle to maintain momentum and the chasing pack mounting a comeback, the race to the TATA IPL 2026 playoffs has become wide open, with eightteams still in contention for four spots. While Gujarat Titans were the first to reach 16 points, defending champions Royal Challengers Bengaluru bounced back from two losses with a thrilling win over Mumbai Indians. Meanwhile, Chennai Super Kings have surgedback into contention with three straight wins, powered by their young guns, while Sunrisers Hyderabad, Punjab Kings, and Kolkata Knight Riders, on a four-match winning streak, remain firmly in the hunt.

Here are five ‘Fearless Prodigies’ from CSK, RCB and SRH who could prove instrumental in their teams’ push for a top four finish.

1. Abhishek Sharma

The third-highest run-scorer of the season, Abhishek Sharma has been an unstoppable force for Sunrisers Hyderabad, striking at 210 while averaging 43.7. The left-handerhas smashed three fifties, including a breathtaking unbeaten 135* off 68 balls against Delhi Capitals. While Heinrich Klaasen has been the pillar in the middle order, Abhishek has single-handedly blown teams away in multiple games with his fearless aggressionand intent. With Travis Head rediscovering form, Abhishek’s explosiveness at the top could be crucial if the 2016 champions aim for a top two finish and subsequently, an extra shot at the final.

2. Urvil Patel

The carnage at Chepauk from Urvil Patel against Lucknow Super Giants left many wondering how a player of his calibre had to wait so long for his chance. The Gujaratwicketkeeper-batter equalled the record for the joint-fastest fifty in TATA IPL history by reaching the milestone in just 13 balls. For someone who already owns the record for the fastest T20 century by an Indian, the talent was never in doubt, but translatingthose domestic performances into the TATA IPL was long overdue. Urvil’s fearless hitting powered Chennai Super Kings to their first successful 200-plus chase since 2019, and if the five-time champions are to break into the playoffs race, his pyrotechnics couldbe central to their charge.

3. Anshul Kamboj

Locked in a close battle with Bhuvneshwar Kumar for the Purple Cap, Anshul Kamboj has emerged as Chennai Super Kings’ surprise package this season. The right-arm pacerhas picked up 19 wickets, including multiple three-wicket hauls, and has led the attack across phases despite not having the express pace. While Jamie Overton has controlled the middle overs, Kamboj has become Captain Ruturaj Gaikwad’s go-to option with thenew ball and at the death, especially amid injuries to Khaleel Ahmed and Nathan Ellis. After CSK’s slow start to the season, Kamboj’s consistency with the ball played a massive role in reviving their campaign.

4. Sakib Hussain

After missing the start of the tournament, Bihar pacer Sakib Hussain has added much-needed balance to Sunrisers Hyderabad’s bowling attack. Part of Kolkata Knight Riders’title-winning squad in 2024, Sakib has impressed in his debut playing season with his variations and ability to strike at crucial moments. Alongside Pat Cummins and the in-form Eshan Malinga, the youngster has helped settle an attack that initially lookedinexperienced and one-dimensional. As SRH eye a top two finish, Sakib’s impact with the ball could prove vital.

5. Rasikh Salam Dar

Rasikh Salam Dar, who first caught attention with Delhi Capitals in 2024, has seamlessly slotted into Royal Challengers Bengaluru’s pace attack this season. The skiddypacer announced himself with a four-wicket haul against Lucknow Super Giants at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in just his second game of the season and has complemented veterans Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Josh Hazlewood superbly at the death. More than just a bowler,Rasikh, who has a highest first-class score of 45*, is also a capable lower-order batter and showed impressive composure during RCB’s thrilling chase against Mumbai Indians.

Speaking on JioStar, JioStar experts Cheteshwar Pujara and Mark Boucher highlighted the reasons why ‘fearless prodigies’ will be key for CSK, SRH and RCB in theRace to Playoffs in TATA IPL 2026:

Cheteshwar Pujara

“What Urvil Patel did against LSG shows what the new crop of players can do on their day. Anshul Kamboj has also been a massive part of CSK’s revival over the lastcouple of weeks. Even Kartik Sharma at No. 4 has grown in stature, while those two sixes from Prashant Veer at the end showed the confidence this young group is playing with. CSK now have a bunch of ‘fearless prodigies’ who seem to be getting things rightin crunch moments and they will rely heavily on them as they look to displace one of the current top four teams.”

Mark Boucher

“Abhishek Sharma has led Sunrisers Hyderabad’s fearless approach this season. He has taken the responsibility of being consistently destructive for his side. Onthe other hand, Sakib Hussain has impressed with the ball through his clever changes of pace and unorthodox action, becoming a reliable option at the death. It’s very similar to what Rasikh Salam Dar has done for RCB as the third seamer, and both youngsterscould prove vital as their teams look to hold on to top two spots.”
