Kolkata, January 10, 2026: The Bengal Rowing Club (BRC) hosted the 82nd ARAE–FEARA Regatta, one of Eastern India’s oldest and most prestigious inter-club rowing championships, from 6th to 10th January 2026 at its historic premises in Kolkata. Widely referred to as the “Henley of the East,” the five-day championship brought together elite rowing talent from across India and overseas, celebrating sporting excellence, tradition, and international camaraderie.


The landmark 82nd edition saw participation from leading Indian rowing clubs alongside international teams from Thailand, Russia and Hong Kong, with athletes competing across multiple age groups. The regatta featured a compelling mix of on-water rowing races and indoor ergometer events, delivering high-intensity competition and drawing enthusiastic spectators throughout the championship.
Renowned for its rich legacy and competitive rigor, the ARAE–FEARA Regatta continues to be a cornerstone of the amateur and senior rowing circuit. This year’s edition once again reaffirmed its stature as one of the most challenging and respected rowing events in the country, showcasing both seasoned rowers and emerging talent in a spirit of discipline and sportsmanship.
Reflecting on the championship, Mr. Ujjwal Dugar, Rowing Chairman, said, “The 82nd ARAE–FEARA Regatta highlighted the growing stature of rowing in the region, with strong domestic participation and an encouraging international presence. The competitive depth across age groups reinforced the regatta’s standing as a benchmark event in the rowing calendar.”



Mr. Gautam Valechha, Regatta Secretary, added, “The diversity of competitors and the consistently high standard of racing across categories reaffirmed the regatta’s reputation as a premier fixture. The smooth conduct of events over five days reflects the collective effort of athletes, officials, and organisers.”

The regatta concluded with a Finals and Prize Distribution Ceremony, attended by eminent dignitaries, marking another milestone in the illustrious history of the ARAE–FEARA Regatta and reaffirming The Bengal Rowing Club’s commitment to promoting rowing excellence.
